Colour & Light with Wiltshire Creative and artist Helen Southwell

Step into the new year with a burst of creativity and colour!

Colour and Light is a free 10-week creative wellbeing course led by Glass Artist Helen Southwell and Wiltshire Creative facilitator Francesca Myles. Together, we’ll explore the science of light and colour, the history of stained glass and the magic of glass fusion and the vibrant colours found in our surroundings.

What’s it all about?

Through a mix of creative sessions and local outings, we’ll take time to notice where colour meets light — from the stained-glass windows of Salisbury Cathedral and Salisbury Arts Centre’s church space and the natural hues of the gardens around. You’ll be supported to explore colour and light, create your own individual fused glass pieces, and contribute to a communal artwork to be proudly displayed in the community space.

Course Access Information: Glass will be pre-cut ready to use. No experience needed. Weather depending we may be walking outside at times which may have some uneven paths – let us know if you use a mobility aid, wheelchair or need a gentler pace so we can plan accordingly.

Our creative courses are for people living in Salisbury specifically within the SP1 – SP5 postcodes and are ideally suited to those with low to medium mental health needs– like anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, and feelings of social isolation.

The courses and support offered are designed for those looking to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing, connect with others, meet new people in a safe and supportive environment, explore new creative skills or learn more about local heritage and culture.

Well-City Salisbury primarily uses a social prescribing model where participants are referred/signposted onto a course by their GP practice, support organisations or school wellbeing team, for example. However, we also welcome self-referrals if that route doesn’t work for people and where they currently are on their wellbeing journey. Both referral routes require completing a referral form which can be found below.

This course is free to attend and available for adults 20+. All materials are provided.
