Project Funding Update

We are thrilled to announce that Well-City Salisbury will return for three more years after securing funding from the National Lottery Community Fund!

We’re over the moon that Well-City Salisbury will return in Spring 2025, ready to build on our work with Salisbury residents. Bringing together the experience and skills of 4 partner organisations, ArtCare, Wiltshire Creative, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Wessex Archaeology who are the project leads. Together we will continue to provide 10-week long creative courses and further activities designed at making a positive change to the mental health of everyone involved in the project and fostering a sense of belonging within the Well-City Salisbury community.

We are delighted to continue supporting the community and deeply value your ongoing support in making positive strides to creating a well-city!

We are very excited to share our participant wellbeing activity pack with you!

This collection is a vibrant collaboration between Well-City Salisbury artists and participants who joined
forces to bring you an array of creative activities, individually designed to support wellbeing inspired by their time on the project. Each activity invites you to dive in, get hands-on, and unleash your creativity – all at your own pace.

The Well-City Salisbury team has crafted this pack with care, and we’re excited for you to embark on your own creative journey. Whether you’re looking to unwind, get inspired, or just have some fun, there’s something here for everyone.

The Well-City Salisbury Celebration and Symposium 2024

12 - 19 September, Salisbury Playhouse

What an incredible week celebrating the project through a series of celebration and symposium events!

It’s been a joy celebrating the achievements, sharing the learning, and highlighting the contributions of everyone who participated, facilitated, and supported the project, connecting with the community and fellow organisations.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in exploring what makes a well city and how we can work together. Putting people at the heart of everything we do and creating lasting positive change in our communities.

End of Year Exhibition 2024

Opens 12 September - 2 November at The Young Gallery.

This exhibition celebrates the creative achievements of our participants this year and tells the story of Well-City Salisbury, highlighting what the project is and the positive impacts it’s had on those involved.

Pint of Science comes to Salisbury!

We are very excited to be invited to speak at this years Pint of Science in Salisbury this May.

Pint of Science is a worldwide science festival which brings researchers to your local pub/cafe/space to share their scientific discoveries with you – no prior knowledge required.

Join Well City Salisbury to see how they are using the arts to improve the mental health of locals, and learn about nature and conservation of Porton Down’s Stone Curlew bird population, and hear how global interconnectedness is achieved.

We will be exploring and discussing the impact of creativity on individuals and the power this has on a community led with one of our experienced Well-City Salisbury artists, Sue Martin.

Pint of Science returns 13-15 May 2024 and Well-City Salisbury will be talking at The Winchester Gate on the 15 May.

Adult Mental Health Aware Half-Day Course!

After the success of last year’s community training day, we are very pleased to announce that we will be hosting another free Adult Mental Health Aware Half-Day course on Wednesday 22 May. Training will take place at Salisbury Playhouse, 10 -3pm, light refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Well-City Salisbury are offering this opportunity to groups and businesses as an investment in our local community, where we work together to support people with mental health needs. We hope this offer can pave the way for shared learning across the city and supporting each other in creating a Well-City Salisbury.

Adult MHFA Aware Half-Day course gives an introductory 4-hour session to raise awareness of mental health. Learning will take place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. Numbers are limited to 25 people so that we can keep people and staff and supported while they learn. The course will be delivered by Tracy, Director of Open Minds Training and Consultancy and you can find out more about Tracy experience and the course by visiting Open Mind’s website.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust works to create a sustainable future for wildlife and people across Wiltshire.  With over 20,000 members and 44 nature reserves we are keen to support nature’s recovery and we see that people are a key part of that.

We aim to help improve the health and wellbeing of people through their engagement with nature, so partnering with projects like Well-City Salisbury is a perfect fit.

Through our partnership we will engage a range of people with the natural world and support them through art and nature’s connection to improve their wellbeing.  Brilliant.

Well-City Salisbury Art Club continues for Year 3!

We are very excited to announce that Well-City Salisbury Monthly Art Club will be continuing for Year 3! Thank you to everyone who has attended W-CS Art Club and provided feedback, as the club expands we have taken the decision to move to Salisbury Playhouse, Community Room which gives us more flexibility with space. 
Well-City Salisbury Monthly Art Club is open to all current, past, and new potential participants who would like to take part in a creative led activity and witness the basic structure of our 8-week course model before signing up for courses. A space for socialising, creativity, and a way of staying further connected to the arts, to heritage, to our locality to the project and each other.
Each month we will welcome one of our W-CS artists to deliver a creative activity in a variety of art techniques and processes, whilst learning more about their own creative practice. If you would like to attend and bring in your own activities to work on and sit among fellow creatives, you are most welcome to do so. Materials and refreshments will be provided. W-CS Art Club will take place at 10:30-1pm on the following dates below:

Art Club will take place once a month and all sessions will be held at Community Room, Salisbury Playhouse, Malthouse Ln, Salisbury SP2 7RA.

End of Year Annual Exhibition 2023

Opens 8 September - 10 October at Salisbury District Hospital.

We are delighted to share that our End of Year Exhibition photography display will be shown at Salisbury District Hospital during September and October.

We are very lucky to be working with artist Elizabeth Hammond who delivered our online course with Wiltshire Creative earlier in the year to curate this year’s exhibition.

This is an opportunity to celebrate our second year and showcases the fabulous creative works made by participants who took part in a course this year.

Join us in celebrating all the participants, artists, project team members who make Well-City Salisbury what it is today.

The exhibition will be open from 8 September – 10 October and will be displayed throughout Salisbury District Hospital’s main corridors and will be open 24 hours a day.

Well-City Salisbury August Art Club!

We are delighted to be joined by Core Art Journaling next Monday 21 August for the last W-CS Art Club before the summer break. Join our project coordinator and other participants to explore art journaling in a safe supported space. All materials provided and all welcome, hope to see you there! 

Well-City Salisbury Art Club will take place at Salisbury Methodist Church, St Edmund’s Church St, Salisbury SP1 1EF, 10:30-1pm.

Well-City Salisbury Art Club

New for 2023!

Join Well-City Salisbury for a monthly art club hosted by Project Coordinator, Zoe, at Salisbury Methodist Church. 

Each month there will be the opportunity to meet up with previous W-CS participants, take part in a creative activity or bring in your own creative projects to work alongside other like-minded people, and of course the opportunity to catch up with each other over a slice of cake and cup of tea!

Well-City Salisbury Art Club will run from 10:30am-1pm on the following dates:

17th July 2023

21st August 2023

All materials for the creative activity will be provided but feel free to bring in your own materials, sketchbooks, and other goodies. Refreshments will be provided.

Year 1 End of Year Annual Exhibition 2022

Opening 3rd May!

Our Year 1 End of Year Annual Exhibition is now touring at Salisbury Library, Gallery 4.

Last year we were very excited to be hosting our first End of Year Exhibition during September 2022 at Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre.

This exhibition has been co-curated by @sue.martin.77964 – the artist for our first course of the project, The English Venice, delivered at The Salisbury Museum – and a group of exhibition volunteers who’ve had taken part in courses during our first year.

In addition to sharing information about the project, the exhibition was a celebration of all our participants’ creative achievements.

This exhibition is now touring during May at Salisbury Library, Gallery 4.

The exhibition is free to attend and open 3 – 23 May.
