In this course participants learnt ancient pot making techniques including how to make coil pots, pinch pots and slab pots – and explore mark-making, decorative and glazing techniques led by local ceramicist Jane Staniland. Participants were inspired by the new Ceramics Gallery and Wessex Gallery of archaeology at the museum – learnt about pottery production from pre-history to the medieval period and have the rare opportunity to handle and study ceramic artefacts from the stores.

The course also tied into the museum’s major exhibition of the sculptor Elisabeth Frink.
